I.B.E.W. Local #5 was founded in Pittsburgh in 1897 during a period of rapid economic and technological change. Founded by skilled workers in an industry still in its infancy, the men who founded the local union were attempting to bring organization to a challenging and dangerous craft. Unlike carpenters, plumbers or masons, electricians were not descended from an ancient established craft or medieval guiild. They were faced with the problem of the safe and efficient handling of a new force that was revolutionizing human society - the magical and almost living power of electrical current.

TOWN OF RUTLAND, NEW YORK

Rutland lies just east of the city and Town of Watertown, south of the Town of Le Ray and, west of the Town of Champion, and borders the Fort Drum military reservation. Its southern border is with Lewis County. The Black River flows along its northern border which, at first, supported grist and lumber mills at places whose names later became Felts Mills and Black River. IBEW Local Union 712 is an electrical organization founded in 1914. It is located in Beaver, Beaver County, Pennsylvania with over 450 members that serve over 40 contractors in Beaver, Crawford, Lawrence and Mercer counties. Cities such as Beaver Falls, Chippewa, Rochester, New Castle, Hermitage and Meadville are all covered by Local Union 712. Their skilled electricians are supplied to signatory contractors within the jurisdiction they cover. They are highly skilled, professionally trained men and women who are certified electricians capable of performing all aspects of the electrical field.

True apprenticeship training consists of two components. One component is classroom instruction. This is conducted at the Western Central Pennsylvania Electricians' Training Center. Laborers Local 785, Ithaca

Headquartered in Ithaca, New York, Laborers Local 785 was chartered in March 2008 and consists of the former Locals 7 (in Binghamton, NY est. 1907); 589 (in Ithaca, NY, est. 1937); and 1358 (in Elmira, NY, est. 1958). The merging of the former locals brought together the knowledge and skills of our brothers and sisters throughout the Southern Tier and Fingerlakes Regions of Upstate New York. Our membership includes over 800 skilled construction craft journeypersons and apprentices. Our geographic regions includes eight and a half counties in the Southern Tier of New York and the Finger Lakes.

TEL, Inc., Lightning Protection

TEL Incorporated has been in business performing commercial electrical work and installing lightning protection / grounding systems for 37 years. Owner Tim Bill started the business doing small electrical jobs and installing lightning protection / grounding systems in 1977. This trade was introduced and taught to him by his great uncle. In 2011 Tim’s son Casey, a (2004) graduate of Clarkson University joined the electrical business. Tim and his son Casey are now co-owners of TEL, Inc. and work together in the trade.
